Mac OS 9 was the last significant release of the classic Mac OS from Apple. Presented October 23, 1999, it pozitsionirovalas by Apple as "the best ever created Internet Operating System", the funds allocated as Sherlock 2's Internet search, itnegratsiya Apple in a free service, known as iTools, and improved work open Transport network.

Despite that Mac OS 9 craved advanced features such as protected memory, and full vytesnyayuschaya multitasking, permanent improvements, including the introduction of the automatic renewal programmes and support multiple users.

Another possibility new Mac OS 9 were:

-- improved font manager (FontSync);
-- Remote Access Personal Server 3.5 with support for TCP / IP clients through PPP;
-- An updated version of AppleScript support TCP / IP;
-- Personal File Sharing over TCP / IP;
-- USB Printer Sharing - the control panel to allow access to certain USB printer via TCP / IP;
-- 128 - bit encryption of files in the Finder;
-- Support files with up to 2 GB;
-- Support for Unix volume;
-- Record CD in the Finder (introduced in Mac OS 9.1);
-- to add menu "Window" in the Finder (introduced in Mac OS 9.1)
