Singh Is Kinng Music Review!

The time looked fresh and the atmoshpere could not be much better than this for the music launch. With a controversy already on music launch on Singh is Kinng by Mr.Bacchan leaving on Mr.Sallu's unexpected presence everyone thought that the film and music will give the much required respite to the industry and well if you thought it did justice then read further!

After much hype, ‘Hit Machine’ Akshay Kumar’s Singh is Kinng (SiK) music has finally arrived. Akshay Kumar has a unique distinction of being associated with high-energy blockbuster numbers from Tu Cheez Badi Mast Mast to Bhool Bhulaiya. However, these numbers are add ons as music and not really the critical component of an HIT Akshay Kumar starrer. But this has changed now that he has attained high star status and is being pitched only against SRK. In this backdrop, then, SiK is expected to be a musical joy ride and elevate the hype around the film. What makes it even more intense is Akshay’s recent statement that SiK’s music will be a chart buster. This is what i too thought seeing the teasers, but the album is surely not kinng! Read On.

The album has six soundtracks. Three are typical, routine, noisy, fast paced, punjabi bhangra, with rap and pop [Talli Hua---Labh Janjua, Neeraj Sridhar, Bhootni Ke: Daler Mehndi, Jee karda: Labh Janjua, Suzie Q ]. Two numbers are hip-hop rap n groove style [Singh is King--Akshay Kumar, RDB, Snoop Dog, Bas ek kinng: Ashish Pandit, Hard Kaur, Mika Singh], and one light slow song. The tunes range from bad to average, most of the songs are noisy and loud.

There are two songs with two different kinds of ‘Singh is Kinng’ chantings, which in my opinion is overkill and confusing. The song we were all introduced to on TV first is Bas Ek Kinng (and not Singh is Kinng as you might think if you look at the album) in which the ‘Singh is Kinng’ chanting is catchy. They should have simply stuck to only one ‘Singh is Kinng’ chanting.

Overall, this is a disappointing album. There is no blockbuster number from this one [not even a Kiya re Kiya type song from Welcome]. Instead, what the album has is a set of noisy punjabi numbers, senseless hip hop numbers and the bottom line is it has only one blockbuster line—the ’singh is king’ chanting accompanied by the flute type instrument in Bas ek Kinng. After all the hype being generated for the film, the least the makers could ensure was a good album.

Awaazbandh Verdict: Thumbs Down!

Rating-2.5/5

Editor's Pick: Bas Ek Kinng

One line review- Go catch Kismat Konnection if you bhangra guys!

Note- I am now losing confidence in Singh is Kinng. The makers are hyping it up too much. In addition, I hear every actor wears a turban in the film and now there is too much of punjabi bhangra and singh is kinng chanting…i am begining to have a weird feeling about the story and its treatment now especially after Akshay announcing to the world the theme of the film—that everybody is king and its not about Singh being King. Haa…then why even name the film Singh is King?. There does not seem to be any flow in the film…even the songs look disconnected. I just hope the film is not a mess. Let us wait and see on 8-8-08!
